Mack Defense receives more government orders for heavy duty military trucks
Mack Defense said Wednesday it has received an order from the U.S. military for an additional 135 heavy duty trucks that will be built in Allentown.
The new vehicle order is part of the previously announced $296 million contract over seven years that the Army awarded Mack Defense in 2018, the company said in a news release. For this new order, 60 trucks are being purchased by the Army Reserve; 74 are being funded by the presidential budget; and one is being purchased by the Navy. With this latest order, 446 vehicles have been ordered to date.
Production is at the Mack Experience Center off Lehigh Street, the company said. The production line is in Mack’s former Customer Adaptation Center, where vehicle modifications occurred. The Customer Adaptation Center has since moved to Mack’s Lehigh Valley Operations in Lower Macungie Township, where all Mack’s “Class 8” vehicles for North America and export are assembled.
Production of the trucks in Allentown began in early 2021, following a $6.5 million investment to create a dedicated heavy duty line at the facility.
Mack Defense is a subsidiary of Mack Trucks.
